The Capital Gate Tower Abu Dhabi, home to the new Hyatt at Capital Gate

AFTER much anticipation, Hyatt’s second property in Abu Dhabi, the Hyatt at Capital Gate, opened doors to the public on December 21, 2011. The five-star hotel is housed in the Capital Gate Tower which is part of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec)  in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has already in the Guinness Book of World Records for many structural firsts, including its unusual shape which tilts at an 18 degree angle. The Hyatt Hotel occupies levels 18 to 33 within the distinctive leaning tower.

“Because of its unusual shape with each room is unique, in size and shape and we believe this will be a major selling point for us,” said Ashwini Kumar, general manager of the Hyatt Capital Gate.

The Hyatt Capital Gate will be among a few globally that will be branded simply as “Hyatt’ and not as a Grand Hyatt or Park Hyatt property. Kumar adds, “We will still have all the core values of a Hyatt Hotel”.

The hotel opens doors as a number of other five star hotels open across Abu Dhabi including Hyatt’s other property, the Park Hyatt resort on Saadiyat Island. However Kumar believe that each of the property will find its own niche in the market. “Hyatt at Capital Gate has a unique location.  As part of the Adnec, the lion share of our business will come from the corporate and Mice sectors.

The hotel is already looking busy for the festive season, though largely for our food & beverage offerings.

Occupancies will pick up after the New Year holidays and we are already seeing a lot of interest from the GCC market. This will be followed by exhibitions such as the Future World Energy Summit will start coming back to the city,” he said.

The hotel’s ‘sky lobby’ is suspended 80 m above the ground on the 18th floor, offering stunning views of the city. A spa and fitness centre will be available for guests, on the 19th floor including a swimming pool which cantilevers from the side of the building with 270- degree views of the surrounding horizon.

A host of dining and entertainment outlets will be on offer at the hotel including the Lobby Café to delicate Eastern Mediterranean flavours at the hotel’s signature restaurant, 18˚.  Profiterole offers an à la carte menu for quick treats and for something more intimate, there is the residential-style Lounge or the sleek bar Privé, located next to the hotel’s four Salon meeting rooms.
