Barbados welcomed the world as delegates arrived for Connect Barbados 2026, the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc’s (BTMI) premier business-to-business tourism conference running from June 22 to 26. This year’s event, themed Rooted in Culture, Powered by Partnership, brings together global travel partners and local industry leaders at Hilton Barbados Resort for a week of collaboration, innovation, and authentic Barbadian experiences.

Among the international attendees was TTN’s own Kim Thomson, who joined the select Middle East delegates heading to the island to explore new trade and travel synergies.

Highlighting Barbados’ uniquely positioned tourism product, where local heritage and international brands work seamlessly together, Connect Barbados 2026 opened with a ceremony, including a panel discussion and a cultural reception that set the tone for an engaging and productive conference.

This year marks a milestone, with a 51 per cent increase in international buyers, welcoming 92 buyers from 83 companies. “The strong participation levels are a clear testament to the sustained interest in Barbados, particularly as the destination benefits from significant investment in new hotel developments, the refurbishment and expansion of existing accommodation, and improved airlift through new gateways,” said Andrea Franklin, Chief Executive Officer at BTMI.

Minister of Tourism and International Transport, The Hon. Ian Gooding-Edghill, noted, “We are focused on increasing visitor expenditure while expanding opportunities for Barbadians to participate in, invest in, and benefit from the industry. We want the rewards of tourism to flow throughout our communities and contribute meaningfully to national development.”

The annual event attracts travel advisors, airlines, media, and local stakeholders through curated networking, business meetings, and destination immersion. During the opening event, attendees enjoyed immersive experiences with local artisans demonstrating traditional and contemporary crafts including basket weaving, textile arts, batik design, and pottery alongside live illustrations and portraits by Barbadian visual artists. Queen of Soca Alison Hinds and the Christ Church Foundation Steel Orchestra delivered dynamic performances that showcased the richness and diversity of Barbadian musical talent.

Additionally, there were numerous culinary offerings prepared by award-winning chefs Javon Cummins, Damian Leach, Marvin Applewhaite, Trevon Stoute, and the Hilton team, who wowed guests with their dishes. Mixologist Shane McClean kept the cocktails flowing all night.

At the core of the conference is a series of pre-scheduled one-on-one business meetings, giving the international delegates direct access to hotels, attractions, transportation providers, and destination management companies. These meetings encourage new partnerships and opportunities that support the growth of Barbados as a world-class destination.

Connect Barbados 2026 also celebrated trade and media partners during an awards ceremony. Guests participated in Attraction Day and toured several places of interest. They were also treated to a spectacular finale featuring fire dancers, stilt walkers, masqueraders, and cultural performers, all set to showcase the creativity and spirit that define Barbados.
