SriLankan to fly Goa
SRILANKAN Airlines is planning to operate between Colombo and Goa from October, with the flights of a two-hour duration scheduled for Mondays and Saturdays.
Claimed to be the largest foreign carrier operating to India, SriLankan operates nearly 100 weekly flights to New Delhi, Mumbai (Bombay), Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi, Tiruchy, Trivandrum and Calicut.
Kuwait Airways posts $82m loss
KUWAIT Airways Corporation (KAC) posted $82.2 million in losses in the fiscal year 2005/2006 that ended on March 31, mainly due to high fuel prices, its chairman said. Revenues for the airways reached $868 million, up from the previous year’s $760 million, Shaikh Talal Mubarak Al Sabah said. Expenditures rose to $950.2 million from $897mmillion, largely due to an increased fuel bill of $81 million.
Emirates to Abidjan
Emirates is further extending its network of flights to West Africa, bringing this growth market closer to Dubai. The airline will introduce one extra flight per week to its recently launched Abidjan operation. With this addition, the Dubai-based carrier’s connections to the Ivory Coast city will grow to a total of five weekly flights; operated every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
IAC opens Nice office
INTERNATIONAL Air Charter (IAC), one of the world’s largest independent aircraft charter brokers has announced the opening of a new office in Nice, the popular tourist resort on the French Riviera.
A favourite haunt of the international jet set, Nice accounts for nearly 75 per cent of the UK-based charter company’s clients. The new office will particularly cater to Arab nationals and expatriates from the GCC states, who holiday in Nice or reside in the south of Europe.
Qatar Airways codeshare with Asiana
QATAR Airways has inked a strategic codeshare deal with Korea-based Asiana Airlines on the Doha–Seoul route. Asiana Airlines now applies its OZ code on Qatar Airways’ flights between Doha and Seoul. As of this summer, Qatar will increase frequency this summer with a fourth weekly flight from Doha to Seoul. As of June 25, Qatar Airways has increased its Bangkok route frequency to double daily to meet growing demand from both business and leisure travellers.
