Hotel Inter-Continental Doha has promoted Fernando De Guama as an assistant sales manager.

De Guama has worked with the Qatar hotel since it opened, working initially at the reception.

"For the beauty of the challenges and hard work. I love communicating with people, introducing new products and hopefully influencing them to choose the best," he said.

De Guama has a Brazilian father and Lebanese mother and has lived in both countries.

He speaks Arabic, French and English fluently and is currently studying Japanese "because Japan is a beautiful country and guests like it when they are welcomed in their own language".

He began his hotel career after gaining an associate degree in tourism from Cyprus with a two-year stint at the five-star Le Meridien hotel in Cyprus where he was promoted within six months.

He then moved to Switzerland to take a degree in hotel and hospitality management from HIM Institut of Montreux.

After graduating, he joined the Inter-Continental Doha.
