He beat off competition from 31 other five-star properties in the emirate to take the title. And the first team award in the annual honours went to the Fairmont Hotel, which had a hat-trick of wins in the 2003 competition.The Concierge Of The Year awards, run by Wafi City, Dubai’s leisure and shopping destination, in conjunction with the training department of DTCM, saw 32 five-star properties compete this year.The awards, cash and specially-designed trophies, were presented to winners by Awadh Seghayer, the DTCM’s Manager Heritage Sites and Events, at a glittering gala dinner held at the prestigious Sphinx restaurant at Wafi City’s Pyramids complex.The Fairmont group took the first ‘best team’ award with a prize of Dh20,000. Team member Xernes Martinez received the award 2003 for the concierge with the best knowledge of shopping in Dubai, while another team member Charles Ferrer took the honour for the best knowledge of culture and heritage.There were also celebrations for the Dubai Marine Beach Resort and Spa, whose concierge Cesar C Montebon, took the award for the most positive customer attitude - for the second year in a row.The Concierge Of The Year awards were presented following three months of research by mystery guests who visited the 32 properties and gave points for various skills. The team award was judged by the results of the mystery guest visits and the results of a quiz among the top six hotels. “Of all 32 hotels assessed there was only 10 points difference between the highest and the lowest scoring and two of the hotels were newcomers - The Grand Hyatt and the Shangri-La for one month!” said Lisa Steele, DTCM’s Training Solutions Division.
