The golf club is an oasis of tranquility and beauty carved out of the desert, just 15 minutes from Abu Dhabi International Airport and 30 minutes from the city centre. It offers world-class golfing facilities, an advanced Golf Academy, a striking clubhouse with three floors of restaurants, a fully equipped executive meeting room, and an extensive sports and fitness club. "Golf tourism is gaining increasing importance in the region," says acting general manager Ghassan Mayo. Mayo said the future of golf tourism in the region looked promising with the construction of new golf courses in the UAE and elsewhere. "It would definitely increase competition in the market, but also add to the golfing destination more choices, which golfers are looking for," he said. He said GCC and UAE were the principal target markets for Abu Dhabi Golf Club by Sheraton besides inbound tourists from Europe. The club gives the option of playing on the challenging 18-hole, par 72, 7,204-yard National Course or the more forgiving 18-hole, par 72, 6,498-yard Garden Course which features nine floodlit holes to facilitate night play. Extensive practice facilities include two 18-hole putting greens, chipping greens, practice bunkers, and a 350-metre driving range which is one of the largest in the Gulf. The Golf Academy at the club provides state-of-the art training facilities, including video analysis and personal coaching. The club also offers extensive leisure facilities including a free-form swimming pool, tennis courts, squash, a health club with sauna, spa and Jacuzzi. There is also a fully-stocked pro shop.
