new pier in Terminal 1 at Munich Airport was officially opened last month in the presence of 1,000 invited guests. The Bavarian aviation hub’s commitment to premium service, efficiency and passenger-friendly infrastructure is already confirmed by its multiple awards for Best Airport in Central Europe (Skytrax). With the new pier, the airport now offers modern infrastructure, upscale dining, exclusive lounges and Bavarian hospitality to Arab travellers, one of the airport’s most important guest groups.

“The new pier represents the future of our airport: more capacity, more comfort and more international connections. As a modern gateway to the world, it strengthens our role as a leading European aviation hub,” Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport, said.

Munich has become a popular destination for travellers from Arab countries as well as a gateway to that region. This is also reflected in the steadily growing number of connections and increasing traffic flows between Munich and the Arab world. The pier will now serve as the new home at Munich Airport for airlines based in the Arab region and their passengers.

Subject to further developments in the region, the route network will be significantly expanded in the 2026 summer schedule: 15 airlines will connect Munich with 15 destinations in 10 countries, including major hubs such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Doha.

“At Munich Airport, we embody Bavarian hospitality and continuously invest in innovative initiatives and services to further enhance the passenger experience,” Thomas Kube, Vice President Route and Passenger Development at Munich Airport, tells TTN. “Excellent connectivity, easy navigation, exciting events such as our Christmas market, lively restaurants and shops - including a Michelin-starred restaurant - exclusive lounges, and helpful service staff make Munich Airport a popular gateway for passengers from all over the world.”

The upcoming opening of the Bavarian-Arab Society (BAG) office at Munich Airport is creating a one-of-a-kind point of contact for Arab guests right at the airport, he explains. “Our primary goal is to build a lasting bridge between Bavaria and the Arab world and to make our guests’ stay noticeably more personal, culturally sensitive and comfortable.

“The BAG sees itself as an active bridge-builder between guests, Munich Airport, the region and partners from the business, tourism and diplomatic sectors. Our approach is designed holistically along the entire travel chain, from initial orientation upon arrival to tailored services such as Meet & Assist, all the way to networking within the region. Of particular importance to us is close cooperation with Arab airlines, consulates and official representations to identify needs early on and continuously refine our offerings.

“A central aspect of this is also the clear message to our guests: You are warmly welcome here. We want to make this attitude tangible not just in isolated instances, but consistently throughout their experience,” says Kube.

In combination with the modern, new Terminal 1 pier, high-quality retail and dining options, halal-friendly offerings and prayer rooms, this creates a comprehensive, integrated experience specifically tailored to the needs of Arab travellers.

“Our vision is to create a vibrant platform for intercultural dialogue and economic exchange and to sustainably strengthen Munich and Bavaria as attractive destinations for Arab guests.”
