Conference organisers and travel agents from the UAE recently descended on the ‘twin cities’ of NewcastleGateshead in North East England, keen to discover more about the emerging international conference hub, which is increasingly attracting delegates, speakers and leaders from the region.
The visit follows the first anniversary of Emirates direct flight from Dubai to Newcastle, a route which is already breaking all passenger predictions and has boosted conference interest in NewcastleGateshead.
Jessica Roberts, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau said, “The conference industry in NewcastleGateshead is going from strength to strength. Our reputation is growing and having direct access to the Middle East improves our global accessibility, making NewcastleGateshead an ideal choice for organisers of international conferences.”
It is estimated that UK and overseas visitors to NewcastleGateshead contribute approximately Dh7.6bn to the local economy, with its rich cultural history and world-renowned medical and science industries fueling its position as an up and coming destination for UAE business travellers.
Carol Maddison, Marketing Manager for VisitBritain UAE said, “NewcastleGateshead is really coming of age as a leading conference hub and vibrant destination, with the launch of the daily Emirates flight now making these twin cities far more accessible to UAE travellers.”
