Movenpick moves into Damascus

Movenpick Hotels & Resorts has taken yet another important step in its Middle East expansion strategy. A management agreement for a modern five star hotel in the heart of the Syrian capital, Damascus was recently signed with the owning company Toumeh International Group. The new Movenpick Hotel Damascus, which will form part of a large shopping mall, is already under construction and scheduled for completion in 2010.
“Syria in general and Damascus in particular have long been on our expansion wish list as a cultural and religious centre in the region,” says Andreas Mattmüller, senior vice president Middle East and Asia, Movenpick Hotels and Resorts.
“We are proud to be present in this key Arabian destination as of 2010 thanks to the Toumeh International Group.”

The new Movenpick Hotel Damascus is located in the city centre, in the immediate vicinity of government ministries, and offers 268 spacious rooms and suites. Other amenities include a restaurant, lobby lounge, health and beauty centre, and an outdoor swimming pool as well as tennis courts. A multi purpose function room for up to 300 persons is available for banquets and conferences, along with six meeting rooms and a business centre.
Movenpick Hotels & Resorts, is a hotel management company with over 12,000 employees,and is represented in 26 countries with over 90 hotels existing or under construction. It focuses on its core markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The international hotel group with Swiss roots is forging ahead with its expansion and aims to extend its portfolio to include 100 hotels by 2010.
Movenpick Hotels & Resorts has an established presence in the four and five star segment with two types of accommodation: business and conference hotels and holiday resorts. The hotel group is owned by the Movenpick Holding (66.7 per cent) as well as the Kingdom Group (33.3 per cent).
