World Responsible Tourism Day initiative gains momentum

World Travel Market’s World Responsible Tourism Day - Wednesday 14 November 2007 - announced at last year’s World Travel Market is gaining momentum and support from the travel industry.

This major global initiative, in association with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is according to WTM managing director Fiona Jeffery, “The world’s most ambitious international day of industry action to help save the planet and change lives. It is a unique opportunity for governments, the travel industry, local communities and travellers to show that it is practical contributions that count, not just talk. There’s no industry in the world better placed to embrace a day that highlights the issues related to environment and corporate and social responsibility.”
Francesco Frangialli, UNWTO secretary general ‘strongly supports the initiative’ and is committed ‘to protecting the authenticity of every destination’.
