Mövenpick El Alamein ... lots to offer

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts (MH&R) have opened the first luxury five-star resort and spa on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt at El Alamein.

The move is in keeping with the Swiss-domiciled company’s strategy to expand its Middle East portfolio in both new and existing destinations.
Behind the venture stands Ghazala Tourist Development Company, a subsidiary of the KATO Group, a diversified conglomerate with interests in industry, construction, tourism and real estate development. KATO has just completed the construction of the El Alamein International Airport so as to be fully operational prior to the opening of the resort, 19 km away.
The new hotel will be at the core of a resort spanning 120,000 sq m of land, only 38,000 sq m of which will be developed. It will incorporate five hotels, a golf course, a shopping mall, a sports complex, and a wide range of villas.
Said Andreas Mattmüller, senior vice-president, Middle East, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, “The property is unique and is the only five-star hotel along the north coast of Egypt with the exception of Alexandria.” Guests who will benefit from the new hotel, he says, are both international travellers and locals, a growing number of whom spend time in places like Marina or Agami.
The new Mövenpick resort is located 40 km from Marina, 140 km west of the historic city of Alexandria and 310 km from Cairo. Guests will be able to visit the Siwa Oasis or experience the fascinating El Alamein Museum.
Guests have a choice of 252 rooms, three executive and nine royal suites, featuring every modern convenience for the sophisticated traveller, including wireless LAN. With the chain’s focus on gastronomic excellence, the resort has created dining venues to satisfy the most discerning gourmet: the Mövenpick Restaurant, overlooking the pool area, offers all-day buffet dining; the Oriental Restaurant offers Lebanese and Indian specialties and the Seafood Restaurant serves fresh fish.
“We have extensive leisure and recreational facilities,” says Roche. Among these are an indoor heated pool, a free-form freshwater swimming pool, two children’s pools, two floodlit tennis courts, two squash courts, and a state-of-the-art health club. Angsana manages the hotel’s beachside 1,700 sqm spa complex.
The resort’s MICE facilities accommodate up to 850 people in a large pillar-free ballroom, four break-out rooms and a business centre to ensure the property meets the needs of the business traveller.
