Spain blends extraordinary destinations and fine weather with exclusive experiences and premium product
Spain is strategically redefining itself as a premier luxury destination, moving beyond good weather to offer intimate, curated experiences. From exclusive rail palaces like the Transcantábrico to private access at the Prado and stays in historic Paradores, the nation’s offering is shifting toward intimate and curated travel, delivering high-value options for discerning clients and the travel trade. And the Middle East traveller has taken note.
Spain welcomed 585,000 tourists from the Gulf region in 2024, we learn in an interview with Carlos Ruiz González, Director, Spain’s Tourism Office for GCC countries. “As of September 30 this year, the region has already sent 482,000 tourists to Spain - 2025 figures so far are around the same as 2024, which compared to 2023 saw an increase of 22.7 per cent.”
“The average expenditure per tourist from this region is around 1,600 euros per tourist and the average length of stay in Spain is just under 8 days at 7.8,” González says.

Palaces on rails
Spain offers unique luxury rail experiences that showcase the nation’s diverse landscapes in unparalleled comfort:
The Transcantábrico Gran Lujo is a spectacular train that traverses Green Spain in the North, transporting guests from Donostia-San Sebastián (Basque Country) to Santiago de Compostela (Galicia). Passengers enjoy spacious lounges, musical performances, and menus by prestigious chefs, all while staying in suites equipped with every modern comfort to explore cities like Bilbao and Santander.
Operating in the South, Al Ándalus Train offers luxury rooms and services inspired by the Belle Époque, providing a majestic way to see iconic sites such as the Giralda in Seville and the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba.
Historic charm meets
modern luxury
Beyond contemporary five-star hotels, Spain offers stays in emblematic historical structures that make accommodation a destination in itself.
One of the recommendations is the Paradores network collection comprises meticulously restored historical-artistic monuments, including ancient castles, palaces, mansions and monasteries. Guests can sleep in a sixth-century monastery in the Ribeira Sacra or a medieval castle in Castile and León, combining the charm of centuries past with modern convenience and meticulously prepared cuisine.
Exclusive culture, haute cuisine
The ultimate Spanish luxury is found in private access and culinary excellence. Travellers can now experience intimate cultural access with the best of Spanish culture without the crowds. Exclusive tours are available for the Royal Palace and the National Prado Museum in Madrid, offering the opportunity to see masterpieces like Velázquez's “Las Meninas” almost entirely alone. In Barcelona, Gaudí’s legacy, including the Sagrada Familia and Casa Batlló, can be viewed on exclusive, crowd-free tours.
Spain remains a global gastronomic heavyweight with 16 establishments with three Michelin stars. Highlights include DiverXO in Madrid, led by multiple-time World’s Best Chef Dabiz Muñoz, and established names like Arzak and Akelarre in Donostia-San Sebastián.
The Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions offer luxury grape experiences. Guests can stay in suites at cutting-edge wineries like Marqués de Riscal, enjoy paired dinners, and indulge in spa treatments featuring grape therapy.
Premium sports, retail
For adventure and retail therapy, Spain’s high-end appeal is unmatched. Marinas in Ibiza, Mallorca, and Marbella (like Puerto Banús) cater to luxury yachting. Clients can charter private sailboats or catamarans with full crew and chef service to explore hidden coves. The Atlántico Museum in Lanzarote offers a unique dive experience among hundreds of underwater sculptures by artist Jason DeCaires Taylor.
The major cities of Spain feature dedicated 'golden miles' for high-end retail. In Madrid, this runs along Calle Serrano and includes Galería Canalejas. Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona features haute couture boutiques and jewellery stores. In both cities, services like personal shoppers and private driver services to outlets like La Roca Village are available.
