MUNICH Airport has again been voted Central Europe’s Best Airport in the World by the London-based aviation consultancy Skytrax. In the overall European rankings, Munich was second, behind Amsterdam, as in the previous year. At the global level, the surveyed passengers ranked only five airports ahead of Munich: Singapore, Seoul, Amsterdam, Hong Kong and Beijing.
With these results, the Bavarian hub maintained its number six position from the previous year, and is placed among the world’s six best airports for the ninth consecutive year. In its “weight class” – airports with 30–40 million passengers a year – Munich was actually number two in the world.
Munich Airport’s CEO Dr Michael Kerkloh says: “Despite the major construction work on the new satellite terminal, we obviously succeeded in maintaining our high service and standards even when measured against the world’s best.”
The airport’s passenger volume of 38.4 million in 2012 marked yet another all-time high, exceeding the previous year by 600,000.
Preliminary figures from the airport’s FMG indicate total revenues of just under €1.2 billion ($1.54 billion) for the group over the past year, a gain of more than €50 million ($64 million) as compared with 2011.
Munich Airport was also ranked number one worldwide for airport restaurants. And the Kempinski Hotel Airport München was chosen as Europe’s number one airport hotel and the fourth-best in the world.
