Westin introduces unique fitness concept

Westin Hotels & Resorts has announced the roll out of its unique WestinWorkout fitness concept across its 21 hotels in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

The upscale hotel brand, part of the Starwood Hotels & Resorts portfolio, is leading the way in offering hotel guests a service that allows them to maintain their fitness and exercise regime while away from home – whether for business or pleasure.
The launch of WestinWorkout also ties in with the 75th anniversary of the Westin brand – established in 1930 as the first hotel management company in North America with 17 hotels in Washington and Idaho – which has grown to over 120 hotels globally.
Brand new treadmills, cycles, elliptical trainers, yoga mats and core boards have been installed in new WestinWorkout gyms and bedrooms across the region. Gone are the days when guests checked in to a hotel and watched the kilos pile on – now WestinWorkout can help keep the weight off and the heart rate up while on the road.
Westin’s brand team has worked with leading fitness consultants to develop one of the hotel industry’s most extensive fitness and wellness programmes. The stylish new fitness rooms are inspired by the services offered in upscale health clubs, which many Westin guests belong to. The WestinWorkout gyms in Europe and the Middle East feature treadmills, upright bikes, recumbent bikes, steppers, elliptical trainers, as well as an extensive selection of strength equipment and Cardio Theatre –  with personal viewing screens and sound systems on all cardio equipment. Each fitness area also features a Core Training Zone, a unique area created to improve strength, flexibility, balance and aerobic conditioning. Guests can make use of stability balls, stretching tubes, medicine balls, decks and core boards.
There are also 20, 40 and 60 minute workouts designed exclusively for Westin guests by Reebok University experts. These complete body workouts target each major muscle group and can fit into the busy schedule of any traveller.
For guests who prefer to work out in the privacy of their hotel room, in addition to the gyms Westin has also introduced a number of WestinWorkout rooms in each hotel. Every WestinWorkout room features an indoor cycle or treadmill, DVD Pilates programmes and a custom-designed fitness shelf that holds adjustable dumbbells, resistance tubing, a stability ball, yoga mat and medicine balls.
The convenient and private exercise environment also features a fitness library by Rodale Press, the leading publisher of information on healthy, active lifestyles, which includes several publications such as Runner’s World, Bicycling Magazine and a customised local jogging/running map. The new WestinWorkout rooms are available for an additional charge.
Roeland Vos, president Europe, Middle East & Africa, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, says, “Working out while on the road is a priority for many travellers nowadays, who view Westin Hotels & Resorts as an escape from their hectic daily lives. We have listened to guest feedback and developed this exercise concept which offers them a chance to renew and revitalise, from check-in to check-out. We know that two-thirds of travellers want to work out while on the road, yet many of them don’t ever make it to the gym. So by offering both a gym and our WestinWorkout rooms, hotel guests are now able to fit their regular exercise routines, with the added luxury of a private workout at any time.”
In addition to the gyms and bedrooms, Westin has partnered with Rodale Press’ renowned Runner’s World magazine to design certified WestinWorkout Runner’s World Maps that outline recommended five and eight km jogging/walking routes in the hotel’s vicinity in every city – a great way to do sightseeing on the go. Also available at select hotels is RunWestin, a complimentary programme offering guided, scenic five km morning runs three days a week. Led by a Westin Running Concierge, the run includes a warm-up session with stretching tips by Reebok and can be customised into an individual or group run. As a post workout treat, all guests will receive refreshing bottled water and towels to help them cool down following the athletic sightseeing runs. For guests travelling with young children, the hotels also provide jogging strollers for running mums and families.
In Europe and the Middle East, Westin Hotels & Resorts offering the WestinWorkout concept include the Westin Turnberry Resort, Ayrshire, Scotland; The Westin Dublin; The Westin Palace, Milan; The Westin Warsaw, Poland; The Westin Palace, Madrid; The Westin Excelsior, Rome; The Westin Rotterdam; Westin Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and the Hotel Alfonso XIII, A Westin Hotel, Seville.
Earlier this year Westin Hotels & Resorts launched the WestinWorkout offering in 56 properties in North America, Mexico and the Caribbean to date. In parallel with the Europe, Middle East and Africa roll out, the Westin Hotels in Asia Pacific will also be launching their WestinWorkout services from September onwards.
