WTM Preview Sarawak Tourism Board gets IMS certification November 2003 545 Share The Sarawak Tourism Board is now a fully certified Integrated Management System (IMS) Organisation, making it the first government organisation in Malaysia to be awarded the prestigious quality standards.It’s the only Malaysian tourism authority to have achieve such a success. The Certified Integrated Management System (IMS) comprises the ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:1996 and OHSAS 18001:1999 and were awarded by AOQC Moody (Malaysia) and Moody International Certification Ltd. In announcing the award for Development and Promotion of the Tourism Industry in Sarawak, Moody’s said: “This is consistent with STB’s emphasis on Green Tourism as well as its emphasis on health and safety aspects across the tourism industry.”In acknowledging the effort, Moody continued, “The great effort made by the Sarawak Tourism Board is most laudable. “Besides having a management system that ensures provision of quality tourism services, the Environment Management System, and the Occupational Health and Safety System also represent the commitment and accountability of the organization towards continual improvement in the quality of the environment and assuring the stewardship of the environment.” Moody pointed that the IMS award showed that STB do not just promote tourism but also take into consideration the health and safety of tourists and the effect of tourism on the environment. It also meant paying attention to standards, such as ensuring the tour operators and their clients adheres to safety standards and procedures and a host of relevant other considerations when in the state,” Moody added.“The Sarawak Tourism Board have had the foresight to realise that their performance is crucial to the successful promotion of tourism in Sarawak,” it concluded.
