Anantara Hotels & Resorts celebrates 25 years of growth, expansion

Anantara Hotels & Resorts, the luxury experiential brand under Minor Hotels, is marking its 25th anniversary with a global campaign titled “25 Years of Unforgettable Journeys.”

The milestone celebrates the brand’s growth from a single beachfront resort in Thailand to a global portfolio of more than 50 hotels and resorts across 24 countries.

Founded in 2001 by Minor International Chairman William Heinecke, Anantara was created to deliver immersive, culturally rooted luxury hospitality.

Its first property, Anantara Hua Hin Resort, opened in March 2001 near Bangkok, reflecting Thai village-inspired design and the brand’s focus on local heritage and experience-driven travel.

The name “Anantara,” derived from Sanskrit, means “without end,” symbolising exploration and discovery.

The brand expanded across Thailand before entering international markets in 2006 with its Maldives debut.

It has since grown into the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe, with properties in cities including Rome, Amsterdam, Vienna, and Dublin.

Further expansion is planned in destinations such as Japan, Australia, Egypt, Croatia, Argentina, and the US, alongside the launch of Anantara Tented Camps in Zambia in 2026.

To mark the anniversary, Anantara is also launching the “People Who Inspire” series, highlighting 25 staff members whose work defines the guest experience.

The celebration additionally features curated destination experiences, including river cruises in Rome, stargazing in the Maldives, and elephant conservation activities in Thailand, underscoring the brand’s focus on immersive, locally inspired luxury travel.

“Creating Anantara remains one of my proudest professional accomplishments,” explained Heinecke. “Building the brand from the ground up gave us the opportunity to apply what we learned from operating hotels in Thailand for more than 20 years and satisfy the growing demand from discerning travellers who want memorable local experiences and adventures while having luxurious accommodations to come back to each evening.”

"Anantara has played a defining role in shaping Minor Hotels' luxury portfolio over the past 25 years," said Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of Minor International. "Our focus remains on thoughtful, disciplined expansion that stays true to Anantara's foundations, with immersive experiences, a strong sense of place and genuine cultural connection guiding how and where the brand evolves." -TradeArabia News Service
