Abu Dhabi stages summer campaigns

THE Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) is to stage a tourism summer programme aimed at introducing young Emiratis to the industry and the career opportunities it offers.

More than 70 students aged between15 to 20, including young special needs people, will be offered complimentary places on the youth tourism programme – the first initiative of its kind in the UAE. The programme will run from July 12 to August 6 with training from 9 am to 3 pm every week day.

“Our research shows that nationals have a limited understanding of the many varied career options available within the industry and this camp is one of a number of initiatives we are undertaking to right this misconception,” said Nasser Al Reyami, director Tourism Standards, ADTA.

The programme is being held in conjunction with the Armed Forces Officers Club (AFOC). It is also designed to develop student’s leadership and teamwork skills, gain a greater understanding of the ADTA and Abu Dhabi’s tourism proposition, gain hands-on experiential learning in hospitality operations and appreciate the tourism industry’s crucial role in diversifying the emirate’s economy.

The ‘Summer In Abu Dhabi’ family festival – which on its debut last year attracted over 130,000 visitors – is to triple in size and scale, with more attractions and destination offerings available to domestic and regional visitors.

Organisers ADTA will run this “edutainment” extravaganza from July 1 to August 13, which will encompass an array of exciting family activities in the emirate, with the anchor attraction being a six week carnival like event to be staged across nine, fully air conditioned halls at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

Open daily from 12 noon until 12 midnight and comprising 38 activities in total – 10 more than last year – the event will be divided into individual themed islands each with a unique flavour and focus.

The five themed islands will comprise: science and technology; adventure; art, culture and heritage; sports; and entertainment, each with a host of activities for family edutainment and fun.

Three world class entertainment productions – a renowned magician show, a branded ice show and a circus are also in the pipeline.
