Speaking to TTN at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) last month in Dubai, Ghazi Alosaimi, Vice Chairman and CEO of Kuwait Hotels Company (owners of Safir Hotels and Resort), said the group currently operates 10 properties, and has advanced plans to increase this number.

“We aim for 50 hotels in five years, from 2024 to 2029. This goal is supported by the parent company, Kuwait Hotels Company, which has a 60-year legacy,” Alosaimi explained.

Highlighting Safir’s participation in ATM, he said the company has been at the event since 2008, and emphasised the importance of maintaining and building partnerships with key market players and investors.

Asked about the experience at ATM, Alosaimi expressed optimism. “The high footfall reflects the growing travel market. We are delighted to participate in this vibrant event.”

Safir prides itself on showcasing true Arabian hospitality worldwide, he said outlining the company’s strategy “Our five-year plan focuses on the MENA region. We’ve established a presence in Kuwait, Egypt, Oman, Syria, and Qatar, with plans to expand further.

“In 2024, we plan to announce new signings in the Iraqi and Saudi markets. Details will be revealed in the next few weeks. Saudi Arabia, with its vision of 2030, is drawing huge numbers in terms of tourism. Hopefully, we are going to have some opportunities over there.”

Reflecting on the past year, he said: “2023 was remarkable post-COVID, but regional political issues posed challenges. We hope for peace to foster growth.”

Alosaimi highlighted evolving trends in the tourism industry. “As a Millennial myself, I understand the desire for a personalised lifestyle. Trends are evolving, and for us, the appeal of a hotel isn’t just in its luxurious rooms or marble lobbies. What matters most is the fun and memorable experiences it offers. That’s why we’re concentrating on creating engaging and unique experiences for both youth and children. We have many innovative ideas in development, aiming to offer something truly special.”

Discussing sustainability, Alosaimi noted: “The hospitality sector is part of a larger ecosystem and needs to be in step with what is happening in the larger economy.”

Alosaimi concluded with a message for the travel trade: “I am pleased to be here and look forward to maintaining strong relationships. We wish for continued business growth and dynamic improvements in the market.”
