The hotel and residence is adjoined to Deira City Centre, claimed to be the largest shopping and entertainment complex in the Gulf with over 250 shops and services. Last year, Sofitel enjoyed a very successful year with an average occupancy rate of 75 per cent. The strongest period for the hotel was the summer month when the occupancy climbed over 90 per cent. The 9/11 tragedy affected the hotel immediately following the atrocities in New York and Washington during October, November and December, but by January the hotel started showing strong recovery. There was a drop in the European market segment, but that was compensated by an increase in other markets. The client mix of the hotel is 50 per cent international and 50 per cent from the GCC region. The percentage of corporate versus leisure clients vary with the time of the year, but for the year as a whole, the split is a fairly even 50/50. Sofitel offers complimentary private beach access to its guests. Transportation is provided daily to a private beach club, where guests can enjoy water sports, sunbathing.
