Indian expatriates in Oman, Bahrain and UAE are making a beeline for a new passenger shipping service beginning early this month from the Gulf to Cochin and Bombay, a report said.
A heavy rush for bookings on the ferry was reported in both Bahrain and Oman. Tylos Ferry, a subsidiary of Sanad Travel, is launching the first Bahrain-based passenger ferry service, the 5,340-tonne MV Al Salam Taba which was to begin its maiden voyage on June 2 for Cochin. The 2,700-passenger boat was expected to be at capacity after additional stops in Doha, Dubai and Muscat before heading for India. Sanad Travel managing director Salman Sanad said the company may consider year-round services if the response continued to be as heavy.
