Abu Dhabi Duty Free (ADDF) has opened a new outlet on the land border between the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The outlet was officially opened by Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, chairman of the department of civil aviation, along with Mohammed Saleh bin Bedouah, chairman of the customs authority and Abu Dhabi traffic police director, Colonel Mohammed Buti Al Rumaithi. It is located on the UAE side of the border at Ghoyfat, in a convenient place for traffic moving in both directions and has been designed by the engineering department of the Abu Dhabi Department of Civil Aviation, which also supervised the construction carried out by a local contractor. Mohamed Mounib, managing director of Abu Dhabi airport catering and duty free, said: "Around 2.5 million people pass through the land border between the UAE and Saudi Arabia every year. They are inbound tourists visiting the UAE, residents going for the Haj pilgrimage or travelling overland to their home countries for vacations. "This is a new departure for us and we have put a great deal of time and effort into perfecting the smallest details." The outlet features a 375 sq m retail area selling perfumes, cigarettes, toiletries, chocolates, food, car accessories, electronics, audio/video equipment, household appliances, cameras, mobile phones, jewellery, watches, sports goods, fashions, toys, leather goods and luggage as well as other products such as ready-made ice cubes and Arabic souvenirs. There is also a 110 sq m restaurant with an outside terrace which can seat 60 people, a car park with 32 spaces and a 50 sq m praying area.
