Gulf Hotel promotes managers

The Gulf Hotel in Bahrain has announced a slew of promotions among its senior managers.

Leading the list of promotions announced by general manager Aqeel Raees is director of food and beverage Garfield Jones who has been named as the new executive assistant manager.

Jones, a native of Wales, joined Gulf Hotel in December 1995 as the food and beverage manager. He was promoted to director of food & beverage in December 1997.

Before joining Gulf Hotel, he had worked at Abuja Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria as the F&B Manager.

During the past six years at Gulf Hotel, he has overseen the opening of the China Garden Chinese restaurant, the Gulf International Convention and Exhibition Centre and in 2001, Fusions Restaurant.

Jones is currently working on a number of projects that will expand the hotel's food and beverage facilities including a new Thai seafood restaurant and the swimming pool complex which will open this year.

He has been replaced as the food and beverage director by Essa Faqih who was the F&B manager since October 2000.

Faqih joined the hotel in August 1988 as a management trainee. After completing his traineeship and one year as night manager, Faqih was promoted to assistant front office manager from where he transferred to the food and beverage department as assistant manager. Faqih has completed a food and beverage management programme at the Cornell University in New York.

Raees also announced the promotion of rooms division manager Moosa Ali as the senior assistant manager.

Ali joined the hotel in November 1973 and his first position in the hotel was as group supervisor, accounts. In September 1980, he was promoted to manager of management information centre where he worked close to three years before becoming front office manager in January of 1983.

Personnel manager Abdul Rahman Salim has replaced Ali as the new rooms division manager.

Salim's career at the Gulf Hotel started with a two-year management traineeship. He began his management career at the rooms division as the night manager after which he became assistant manager at front office where he worked for two years.

He was promoted to assistant front office manager in 1989 and after one year became front office manager, a position he held for three years.

Salim transferred to the personnel department in 1993 as personnel manager.

He has been replaced as personnel manager by Abdulla Siddiq who in July 1986 as a management trainee.

Siddiq started his management career as assistant banquet manager after completing his traineeship and one year as night manager. He has also held positions as assistant banquet manager and banquet manager and purchasing manager in the accounting department.
