Bahrain based carrier Bahrain Air has signed an agreement with Airbus to acquire six Airbus A320 aircraft, a move that will increase the company’s fleet size to 11.
The six aircraft, at a cost of $459 million, will be delivered within three years.
Bahrain Air, currently operating to 10 destinations throughout the GCC, the Middle East, North Africa, the Levant, Iran and India, plans to consolidate its position and extend its network to several new destinations with the new acquisition.
“This signing of the Letter of Intent marks yet another milestone for Bahrain Air. By increasing our fleet, we will continue to enhance our role to and promote Bahrain as a hub in the region,” said Ibrahim Al Hamer, Bahrain Air’s managing director.
The company has reported 252,000 passengers in the first six months.
In July Bahrain Air launched operations to Jeddah with three flights weekly, which will be increased to four weekly flights next month.
New destinations planned for launch this month are daily flights to Kuwait and two weekly flights to Dhaka.
