Obemeier takes up regional role
Roland Obemeier joins Kempinski as regional vice-president for sales and marketing in the Middle East and Africa.
He was previously consultant to a Kempinski Ad Hoc Team tasked with assignments such as the opening of Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates and Djibouti Palace Kempinski. He has also been area director of sales in the Middle East.
Klein takes charge at Amwaj Rotana
Rotana Hotels has named Moritz Klein the general manager of the Amwaj Rotana Resort, Jumeirah Beach Dubai. The resort is due to open in January 2008. He began his career in Germany with an appren-ticeship at Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski in Munich and was till recently resident manager of Beach Rotana Hotel & Towers, Abu Dhabi.
Fung goes to Bahrain
Rosanna Fung has been appointed the associate director of catering and confer-ence services at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain Hotel & Spa. She was previously part of the events management team at the Monetary Authority of Singapore, where she ensured the successful hosting of the boards of governors of the IMF and the World Bank in 2006.
New appointments at Carlton Tower
The Carlton Tower Hotel Dubai has appointed Basim Mohammad Abu Hassan its F&B manager.
Other new appointments include Ricardo Pereira (above) as director of sales and Vaitsa Cantaros as the new executive Greek chef of The Greek Taverna, the latest addition of the Carlton Tower Hotel Dubai.
Izhiman heads Crowne Plaza Jeddah
Rafique Izhiman has been appointed general manager of the Crowne Plaza Jeddah. Prior to his appointment, he has held positions such as the regional director of sales and marketing and resident manager at InterContinental properties in Jeddah & Makkah respectively. Izhiman joined the InterContinental Hotels Group in 1981.
Tomassen does rooms in Amman The management and team of Grand Hyatt Amman recently welcomed their new director of rooms, Roy Tomassen.
He started his hotel management career in Amsterdam before moving to work in several renowned hotels in London, among them the Churchill London, where he was front office manager.
Amer goes to Four Points Kuwait
Mounir Amer has been named general manager of the Four Points by Sheraton Kuwait following his most recent position as hotel manager at Sheraton Kuwait Hotel & Towers. He started his career with Sheraton Kuwait in 1976, moving to the Sheraton Deira in Dubai, and later to Lebanon where he opened the Four Points by Sheraton, Bhamdoun.
New names at Towers Rotana
Dubai’s Towers Rotana Hotel has appointed Prem Calais (left) as its F&B manager. Calais moves from the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel where he was assistant F&B manager.
Carlo Cirone joins the Towers Rotana Hotel as executive chef. He brings with him 10 years of experience with Inter-Continental Hotels in Cairo, Barcelona and Budapest.
Pachler joins Rosewood
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has announced the appointment of Wolfgang Pachler as general manager of Al Faisaliah Hotel, A Rosewood Hotel and Al Faisaliah Residence in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Prior to this, he was partner and consultant of GCI Management & Consulting, in Vienna. He has an extensive background in hospitality.
Mokhtar promoted at Conrad Cairo
The Conrad Cairo has promoted Naser Mokhtar to director of business development. In his new role, he will oversee the entire business development function of the hotel. Mokhtar joined the hotel eight years ago, as part of its opening team, as director of sales, later being promoted to director of sales and marketing.
Joelle Jabbour heads to Abu Dhabi The Beach Rotana Hotel & Towers Abu Dhabi has appointed Joelle Jabbour Abou Hanna as its new director of marketing and communications. With more than 10 years’ experience in hospitality, Joelle joined Rotana Hotels in 2000, and moves from the Gefinor Rotana Hotel in Beirut, where she was director of sales and marketing.
Senior appointment at Emirates
Emirates has recently promoted Mostafa Karam to the position of senior vice president customer affairs and service audit (CASA). Karam was previously vice president of the department. Since joining Emirates in 1990, Mostafa has held a number of senior management positions, which include being posted as manager in Oman and Egypt.
Siddiqi sells, proactively
Jan Siddiqi has been promoted to the position of senior sales manager – proactive sales. Siddiqi has been with the hotel for more than four years with the sales & marketing team. He has been recognized as manager of the year for 2006. With his promotion, he will also focus on managing and developing the travel industry segments.
Diplomat Spa appoints Hamrouni
Bahrain’s Diplomat Radisson SAS Hotel Residence and Spa has appointed Lotfi Hamrouni as its new director of spa and recreation, to set up and launch the island’s most luxurious and complete spa experience, The Diplomat Spa. Lotfi brings with him a wealth of spa and recreation knowledge and 15 years of experience in five-star hotels.
Malik appointed at Al Safir Hotel
Al Safir Hotel and Tower has appointed Idrees Malik as the new head of its sales department.
Malik brings with him a wealth of experience in the services industry dating back to 1977 and hold a degree in Marketing. Prior to this, he served as Qatar Airways district manager in Jeddah, Muscat, Abu Dhabi and Doha.
