Roger Cherubini has been appointed as the new general manager of Sheraton Doha Hotel and Resort in Qatar, replacing veteran hotelier Robert van Meerendonk.

Cherubini brings 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry including assignments on just about every continent - from Europe, North and South America to Africa and Middle East.

Before coming to Doha, Cherubini was general manager at the Sheraton Casablanca Hotel & Towers in Morocco.

"I am delighted to be in Doha and look forward to share the experience I gained in other parts of the world together with the fantastic team I found at the Sheraton Doha Hotel & Resort, especially during this exciting period of growth and development of business and tourism industry in Qatar," he said.

Born in France, Cherubini is a graduate of the Hotel Management School in Nice. He started his hotel career in 1972 as a restaurant cashier in Hotel Negresco in Nice.

The field of food & beverage attracted him and he progressed through a series of F&B, executive assistant and general manager positions for international hotel chains, such as Meridien and Sheraton.

Cherubini is no stranger to the Middle East. He was in the opening team of Meridien Abu Dhabi from 1979 to 1981, after which he was in charge of the food and beverage department of Le Meridien Kuwait.

He has travelled extensively throughout the Gulf before moving to Africa where he headed Le Meridien properties in Cameroon, Gabon and Senegal.

In 1989, Cherubini joined the then ITT Sheraton as general manager of Sheraton Lima, Peru. His next postings took him to Sheraton Mofarrej in Sao Paolo, Brazil; Sheraton Lisbon in Portugal and Sheraton Casablanca in Morocco where he spent the last 6 years.

He has been an active member of the Global Hotelier Club as well as the prestigious Chaine des Rotisseurs.
