The Modhesh Fun City concept has been expanded further this year.

Hectic preparations are under way for the fourth Dubai Summer Surprises beginning this month.

DSS 2001 will be held from June 21 to August 31 under the theme Big Fun for Little Ones.

The event will offer 10 surprises organised by different government departments, in association with shopping malls, hotels and sponsoring companies.

Two new themes - Art Surprises and Sports Surprises - have been added to the list, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing said.

DSS 2001 will begin with Ice Surprises organised by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) from June 21 to 27 followed by:

  • Food Surprises of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing from June 28 to July 4;

  • Techno Surprises by the Dubai Police from July 5 to Jul y 11;

  • Water Surprises by Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) from July 12 to 18;

  • Global Surprises by Jebel Ali Free Zone from July 19 to July 25;

  • Flower Surprises by Dubai Municipality from July 26 to August 1;

  • Art Surprises of Dubai Information Department from August 2 to 8;

  • Sports Surprises by the Department of Health & Medical Services (DORMS) from August 9 to 15;

  • Heritage Surprise by the Dubai Ports and Customs from August 16 to 22; and

  • Back-2-School Surprises by the Department of Economic Development from August 23 to 31.

    One of the key attractions will be the enlarged Modhesh Fun City at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Open daily from 10 am to 10 pm, it will offer games, competitions, live cartoon shows, movies and all sorts of entertainment for children, all under one roof.

    Dubai tourism authorities last month held a major regional promotion for the event with roadshows in cities in Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

    It was revealed at the roadshow in Bahrain that nearly 100 hotels are offering special rates ranging from Dh100 (about $28) to Dh450.
