Top Bahrain hotels appeal for shared beach

Six of Bahrain's top hotels have appealed for a shared beach to woo more international tourists.

They are hoping authorities will bow to a second appeal for coastal land to create a beach, to be shared by guests from the land-locked city hotels.

This is the second time the group has appealed to the Information Ministry for approval to set up a shared beach project, said National Hotels Company chairman Ahmed Al Zayani.

He said hoteliers got together four years ago and approached the ministry, but nothing came of it.

"We are planning to send another letter to them asking them to allocate a plot of land for this project," said Al Zayani.

"Any plot of land will do as long as it is suitable and we would prefer it to be nearby not far away like Jazair Beach."

Other hotels involved are the Hilton, Sheraton, Holiday Inn, Gulf and the Regency Inter-Continental. Part of the problem is that the Information Ministry doesn't co-ordinate its tourism policy with the owners of the top hotels, said Al Zayani.
