Kuganha launches luxury wellness safari in South Africa’s Western Cape

Share

Kuganha has opened in South Africa’s Western Cape, introducing a new luxury wellness safari concept that combines private wellness experiences, Big Five wildlife encounters, conservation and ultra-luxury hospitality within a 10,000-hectare rewilded conservancy, less than two-and-a-half hours from Cape Town.

Set in a malaria-free environment, the exclusive retreat features just 10 private tented suites, each measuring at least 320 square metres.

According to Kuganha, these are the largest one-bedroom private tented safari suites in Africa, offering guests an exceptional level of space, privacy and personalised service.

The property’s concept centres on bringing a comprehensive wellness experience directly into each guest’s suite, allowing visitors to enjoy treatments, relaxation facilities, dining and hospitality at their own pace without relying on conventional communal spa facilities.

Developed from more than 25 years of experience hosting high-net-worth travellers, celebrities, sports personalities and diplomats visiting Cape Town, Kuganha responds to growing demand for privacy, exclusivity, convenience and personalised luxury.

Each suite includes an extensive collection of private wellness facilities, including a sauna, steam room, Himalayan salt oxygen halotherapy room, flotation deprivation pod, ice plunge bath, jacuzzi plunge pool and double massage beds with massage facilities.

An introductory wellness journey guides guests through the safe use of the in-suite equipment.

The retreat’s philosophy is built around three principles: allowing the spa to rewild the soul, food to rewild the body and wellness to rewild the mind.

Its broader aim is to help guests disconnect from the pressures of modern life, including urban stress, pollution, social media and the demands of work and travel.

Culinary experiences form a central part of the offering, with menus designed to replenish and support each guest’s individual wellness journey.

The kitchen focuses on fresh, organic, sustainable and locally sourced produce, combining wellness-oriented dining with a high-end culinary experience.

Guests can dine privately in their suites or visit the Kuganha restaurant, which overlooks an infinity pool and waterhole.

The setting offers views of the Karoo landscape, surrounding mountain ranges, wildlife and expansive night skies.

Beyond hospitality, conservation is a defining element of the destination.

The surrounding 10,000-hectare conservancy has undergone extensive rewilding, including the rehabilitation of rare and indigenous vegetation and the reintroduction of the Big Five and other wildlife to an area where many species had disappeared following historical hunting more than 270 years ago.

The conservation initiative has received international recognition for its contributions to biodiversity protection, social upliftment and sustainable tourism.

Kuganha extends this rewilding philosophy to the guest experience, bringing together nature, wellness, cuisine and wildlife in a single destination.

By combining expansive private accommodation, in-suite wellness facilities, personalised dining and safari experiences, the retreat aims to establish a distinctive category of luxury wellness tourism in the Western Cape, positioning the region as an emerging destination for travellers seeking privacy, restoration and meaningful connections with nature. -TTN
