Leading hotelier Adel Bibars has been appointed general manager of the Sheraton Sharm Hotel, Resort and Villas on the Red Sea.
An industry veteran who joined the Sheraton group in 1982, Bibars' previous posting was as general manager of the Sheraton Mecca. He was also director of sales at the Sheraton Doha when it opened two decades ago and was involved in the opening of the first Four Points hotel outside the US, the property now known as the Sheraton Deira. He takes the reins of the spectacular hotel in Egypt at a time when the resort town of Sharm El Sheikh is booming, thanks primarily to tourists and the corporate conference market. Visitors are mainly from Europe, particularly Italy, but there has been a major influx of Gulf nationals in recent times, especially in the family sector, according to Bibars. "There is stability of occupancy that is the envy of many other resorts throughout the world. "Much of our clientele is here on vacation, many others come for conferences."' Bibars said he was excited about the challenges of his new position.
