A delegation from Visit Wallonia and partners such as Emirates Airlines, VIT (DMC), Evangelo Belgium, (DMC); Euro Space Center (space theme park) and Les Jardins de la Molignée Hotel came together to present their destination at Expo 2020 in Dubai.

Addressing the press event, the Minister of Tourism, Visit Wallonia, Valerie De Bue, said, “Visit Wallonia, the French Speaking south of Belgium, has many assets to offer. The big four elements are nature, culture, authenticity and heritage, and of course, the great warmth and traditional hospitality of its inhabitants.

“During the recent months, we have completed many refurbishments and renovation projects. We have also initiated a digital transformation, to modernise accessibility both to the public and local operations so that now you may find the whole of Wallonia in your pockets through any mobile device.

“The development of service and products linked to Wallonia Tourism is constantly evolving and improving. There are also some ambitious projects under consideration.

“Visit Wallonia has nearly 3,000 classified and promoted accommodation options, 69,000 hotel beds including a majority of local accommodation range such as traditional hotels but also rural accommodation such as bed and breakfast, farm house or guest house. The region has some 390 attractions including theme parks, museums and many other activities and has good international connections with two airports Charleroi and the Brussels airport, two international railway stations including four high speed trains and another one in Belgium.”

Etienne Claude, Director General and CEO, Visit Wallonia, said, “For biking, we have many trails that can not only be done with mountain bikes and but now with the evolution of electric bikes, it makes it easier so you can ride many hours. With sustainability in the forefront, in the future, many travellers will look for alternative, more sustainable transport. For Family Walks, it really depends on what guests are looking for. Those interested in heritage, they can do city tours, if they want greenery, then our well known green side of Wallonia will be perfect. Also, our people are ready to welcome visitors in many languages including Arabic.

“We have many golf courses in the South of Wallonia. This is something we plan for future development and that we need to improve as more and more are taking up Golf, but perhaps people don’t spend enough time in the South of Belgium to explore this aspect.”
