We spoke to Glenn Cabrera, general manager, Caramel Restaurant & Lounge, Muscat, to know more about its unique ‘casual fine-dining’ concept and what to expect.

“Owned and managed by Al Zaman Hospitality, Caramel Restaurant & Lounge Muscat officially opened late in December of 2016 and quickly became a pace setter in the industry; a hub for food and beverage enthusiasts.

“Our concise American contemporary menu has proven revolutionary to the fine-dining industry. Our menu concept offers traditional choices for three-course fine dining, while at the same time a high-end ‘Petite Plates’ selection affords a unique casual sharing experience.

“We therefore classify ourselves as a hybrid ‘casual fine dining’ concept.”

It’s no surprise that the concept appeal to a variety of target clientele, including nationals and expatriates as well as discerning businessmen and nightlife socialites. At the same time, we target appeal to a full catchment of ages and nationalities.

The venue boasts with stylish décor and very highly trained service staff ideally can host corporate dinner and cocktail parties. Caramel has successfully hosted large groups from corporate events, family events among other occasions. It has emerged a favourite spot suitable for hosting anniversaries and birthdays.

“Our success on hosting large parties is credited to Caramel’s professional staff that ensure an impression is left to all visiting guests. We boast on a warm inviting ambiance and relaxing atmosphere that offers exceptional dining experience and entertainment at one centrally located hot spot,” says Cabrera.

Of course, food is the main draw, so we get some insights from chef Prashant, who is the head chef at Caramel Restaurant & Lounge – Muscat. “Caramel takes its gastronomic influences from the four corners of America, as American cuisine takes homage from its various influences like Asian and South American, which are now deeply embedded into the heart of American cuisine. We have taken these influences and curated dishes that show the essence of America.

“See the Asian influences in our sushi or our South American way of grilling meat on a lava stone grill, or take, for instance, our all-time favourite comfort food like Mac and cheese bites, TNT Shrimp or Chicken Lollipop.

“The philosophy of our food is deeply embedded and moving with modern times. We have re-invented some of the food to ensure diners always feel excited.

“Food presentation at Caramel is simple and the style in classic, with a touch of contemporary to elevate the flavours and the senses. We create simple and thoughtful plating that enhances both the eye appeal and taste of our food.

“Our signature dishes are made with using simple and freshest ingredients available in local market,” says chef Prashant.
