LOCAL media have recently reported that Morocco will launch a communication campaign with the aim of attracting more tourists from Europe and the GCC countries. Director General of Morocco’s tourism promotion office Abderraafia Zouitene said 100 million Moroccan dirhams ($10.5 million) have been set aside for this campaign.

When in Morocco, the luxurious La Sultana properties are a great choice to be introduced into the North African country, while combining a city break with a relaxing beach holiday.

MARRAKECH

Opened in 2004, the exclusive, 28-room La Sultana is an oasis of calm, away from the bustle of the Kasbah in the city of Marrakesh.

At 1,500 sq m, La Sultana boasts a large rooftop terrace that offers spectacular 360 degree views of Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains. The 28 individually styled bedrooms and suites showcase the very best of Moroccan craftsmanship.

Guests can escape the heat in the pool area surrounded by palm, banana and sica trees. The property features a large traditional spa made from crimson marble, with a high vaulted ceiling and striking design and colour scheme. The spa offers a turquoise lap pool, individual hammams, treatment rooms and relaxation areas.

La Sultana offers urban safaris or privately guided experiences through the busy streets of Marrakesh. The tours take in the historical Kasbah district and the Unesco World Heritage listed Medina, which includes the famous Jemaa El Fna square, the Saadian Tombs, the royal palaces and the Bahia Palace, all within walking distance from the hotel.

OUALIDIA

This 12-room retreat is situated by an open lagoon on the Atlantic coast of Morocco and halfway between Marrakech and Casablanca airports. The hotel is located near a picturesque fishing harbour, which hosts a colourful farmers market every weekend. In contrast to Marrakech and with miles of sandbanks, oyster beds and saltwater marshes, the pace here is slower and more peaceful.

Each of the 12 rooms and suites make the most of the stunning views and incredible light. Each room has been individually designed with large bathrooms, private terraces with water features and a sea-water Jacuzzi fed by the lagoon. Due to its location, watersports activities, including surfing, kayaking and windsurfing are superb.

For a truly unique stay, a treehouse suite is hidden amongst dense and fragrant foliage in the grounds. One of the tree’s main branches is the center piece of the suite, immersing guests in the natural environment. A full-length window affords breath-taking views over the horizon and a private sea-water Jacuzzi is set into the treehouse’s spacious terrace.
