The 12-judge panel for the World Responsible Tourism Awards

FIFTY-SEVEN organisations and 10 photographers  have been shortlisted for the World Responsible Tourism Awards at the WTM.

Sponsored by The Sultanate of Oman Ministry of Tourism, the award categories cover a range of themes from water conservation (2013 is the UN’s International Year of Water Co-operation) to child protection, currently hotly debated on various social media platforms.

Professor Harold Goodwin, chair of judges, explains: “We decided to change the categories significantly in our 10th year. Responsible tourism has moved on and we wanted to reflect the achievements in campaigning, child protection and water conservation, as well as recognise those who have made a difference in some of our more established categories.”

The judges were also given the name of the People’s Choice winner. This category received a grand total of 5,377 votes from travellers across the globe. Winners will be revealed on November 6, during World Responsible Tourism Day, at the ExCel in London.
