SCOTLAND’S national tourism organisation will present 32 quaichs to global travel trade at WTM 2011, celebrating Year of Creative Scotland 2012. For the 32nd successive year VisitScotland will be present at the four-day event at ExCeL in London.

To celebrate the Year of Creative Scotland, VisitScotland is celebrating the nation’s cultural and creative past by presenting a “quaich” to 32 WTM visitors. A quaich is an ornate ceremonial two-handled cup, used for drinking and sharing whisky. Throughout the four days visitors to the stand will get the chance to share in the Creative Scotland celebrations and take home one of these beautiful chalices, courtesy of Scotland’s national tourism organisation.

VisitScotland will be attending along with partners that include some of the nation’s top hotels, tourist attractions and tour operators.

For the first time, VisitScotland and its partners will have a dedicated Scotland-branded area as part of the UKinbound stand, adorned with some fine examples of the Scottish dialect.

Malcolm Roughead, chief executive of VisitScotland, said: “We are delighted to be returning to London to take part in this year’s World Travel Market, where we are looking forward to exhibiting with our partners in the dedicated Scotland-branded area of the UKinbound stand.

“2012 is the Year of Creative Scotland, a chance to spotlight, celebrate and promote Scotland’s cultural and creative strengths on the world stage. We know that our visitors love Scotland because of our culture and traditions, so it is fitting that in our 32nd year at World Travel Market that we celebrate this by offering the chance to receive a unique and traditional piece of Scottish heritage designed to bring people closer together.”

At ExCeL, returning partners will be: Abbey Tours Scotland, Apex Hotels, Simply The Best Visitor Centres, Historic Scotland, JacTravel, Oxford Hotels & Inns and the Royal Highland Hotel.

VisitScotland is also welcoming four new partners: Cawdor Castle, a breathtaking five-star VisitScotland attraction, Rabbie’s, which takes visitors on stunning tours throughout our country, the Green Hotel Golf and Leisure Resort in Kinross, Perthshire and the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh. The Year of Creative Scotland provides the perfect opportunity for Scotland to showcase its world class cultural assets, unique events and festivals and its yearlong cultural offering.
