Car rental company on the road to expansion

LEADING car rental provider Dollar Thrifty is about to expand its operations with the signing of agreements for Dollar offices in Morocco and Jordan.

The company also expects to be moving the Dollar brand into Libya early next year, the country is already served by Thrifty.

And Sam Eltibi, executive director for Mena said he is actively seeking further franchisees around the region. “At the moment, most are coming through word of mouth which shows the value of our brands since our existing franchisees are recommending us,“ he said.

Speaking at World Travel Market (WTM), Eltibi added that 2011 will also see increased trade show participation to increase the brand awareness particularly in the European market in line with increased flight options to and from the region.

Thrifty Car Rental in Oman also recently announced that it is increasing its fleet size by 10 per cent in response to a strong demand for car rental in the sultanate.

“We are expecting a surge in business during the next two months, due to the number of holidays and also the perfect weather conditions which will encourage outdoor activity,” said Mehdi Jaffer, deputy managing director, Thrifty Car Rental Oman.

“The majority of the new fleet comprises 4WDs as we have experienced a higher demand for them this year in comparison to 2009. We also have the latest sat nav technology available for hire which is often requested due to of the nature of travel in Oman.”

Thrifty Oman has also ramped up its roadside assistance services to provide round-the-clock breakdown support and the company has opened a new outlet in Ruwi, a prime business district in the sultanate.
