Room with a view…and much more

WHEN you think of The Address Montgomerie Dubai, you probably think of  the  championship golf course designed by golfing legend Colin Montgomerie with Desmond Muirhead.

But on a visit with my family I found it to be a lot more!

Nestled within the club house of The Montgomerie Dubai is a truly boutique hotel. With only 21 rooms, the five-star property, managed by the Address Hotels & Resorts, offers an executive suite with golf course view, separate bedroom, combined lounge/dining and a private office.

In addition, there is the Montgomery suite with golf course view, skyline suite with courtyard view and superior rooms with either golf course or courtyard views. All rooms have private balconies with a view of either the course or Emirates Hills estate.

Each room has a personal butler service, 32-inch LCD TV with CD and DVD capabilities and all other services you would expect from a five-star hotel, added extras such as complimentary high-speed internet, courtesy shuttle service and discounts on green fees and the Angsana Spa treatments are added bonuses.

For a hotel with only 21 rooms, The Address Montgomerie has an amazing array of dinning options – all-day dining at The Academy, Bunkers Spike Bar overlooking the 18th hole and Aquaviva near the swimming pool, for salads sandwiches and cocktails.

The elegant Nineteen offers international cuisine and, though the menu is not extensive, the steaks and fish we ordered were excellent and there also is Monty Cristo’s cigar lounge for those wanting to relax after a meal with a selection of cigars and after dinner beverages and possibly a game of billiards.

All the luxury was greatly enhanced by the level of service we received. Prior to my arrival my husband experienced cramp after playing a round of golf. Staff quickly came to his aid, got him into the air conditioning and made sure he was re-hydrated.

I was extremely impressed with the care and concern shown and this is where a hotel can really  make the difference – through its staff.

Although The Montgomerie, Dubai has evolved into one of the Middle East’s most luxurious and desirable golfing destinations in recent times, the key to its success has always been contingent upon the quality of the golf course which has become the focal point for one of Dubai’s most exclusive residential communities, Emirates Hills.

The course covers 265 acres – 123 of turf, 49 of man-made lakes (14 in all) and 93 of landscaped gardens – and is scattered with 81 large bunkers.

It provides the player with undulating ‘links land’ style fairways with generous landing areas which challenge and intrigue all levels of player. Although large in size, the greens can be very misleading, especially as they are consistently rolling above 9.5 ft, and plenty of shape throughout the greens can result in some very trying putts.
