SET on a private island, between beach and green, amidst the most stunning natural surroundings and close to one of the world’s finest hotels, the Le Touessrok Golf Course, on the east coast of Mauritius, is a one-of-a-kind ‘treasure island-course’ on the Ile aux Cerfs. Earlier this year, the course was ranked number one on Golf International magazine’s ‘100 of the Finest Things in Golf’ list.
Widely acclaimed as one of the world’s top ten golf courses, the Bernhard Langer-designed facility is an 18-hole, par 72 course situated on its own island just opposite the five-star Le Touessrok, member of The Leading Hotels of the World and flagship of Sun Resorts group of hotels.
'When Bernhard Langer designed the course he really did produce a one-off and it is still recognised as one the most exhilarating courses in the world. The extraordinary location, the immaculate condition and the boat ride to the course from Le Touessrok all create a once-in-a lifetime experience. It’s a must-play for any serious golfer,' explains Russell Hannah, manager of Le Touessrok Golf Course.
The ‘IMG-bred’ expert was formerly in charge of golf operations at Turnberry golf course, host to the British Open, and he has tuned Le Touessrok Golf Course to the best international standards.
Upgraded facilities include a lavish pro shop, immaculate practice range, state-of-the-art equipment, a golf academy with video and computer analysis and a clubhouse with its own Langer’s Bar & Grill.
The island-course also offers golfers the option of some serious pampering at Le Touessrok with its seven restaurants, its Givenchy Spa and two exclusive islands. And there’s also the buzz and breeze of nearby Long Beach, a brand new contemporary and tropical resort offering superlative service and fantastic facilities: six restaurants, a hammam and spa and non-stop entertainment.
From November 21 to 27, 2011, for the seventh consecutive year, Le Touessrok is organising the Le Touessrok – Air Mauritius International Golf Trophy which will see competitors from all over the world playing on the acclaimed course. Exclusive packages are available for both golfers and non golfers. Partners of this event are TaylorMade, Golf International magazine and IMG. In December 2011, Le Touessrok Golf Course will host the Standard Bank Mauritius Open. The third edition of this important international competition will provide exciting golf time to amateurs and pros alike. In fact, from December 11 to 17, 2011 participants will have two events in one.
The first competition will be an amateurs-driven event: the Long Beach – Air Mauritius Pro-Am where amateur players will have the opportunity to play with international professional players for two days. The Standard Bank Mauritius Open 2011, where international pros will play together with a selection of the best local pros, juniors and low-handicapped amateurs will then take over a further two other days with amateur players also taking part.
