SHARJAH Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has announced the start of construction on a project to develop Al Majaz Park, one of the emirate’s leading tourist attractions.
Spreading across an area of 3 sq km, Al Majaz Park is located between Jamal Abdul Nasser Street and the Khalid Lagoon Corniche, a vital residential and commercial district.
Opened in 1990, the park is exquisitely landscaped and boasts several concrete monuments, palm trees, a fountain and flowerbeds.
Work will be undertaken in two phases, with the first scheduled for completion by November.
The first phase will involve the construction of a musical fountain on the Khalid Lagoon, opposite the park’s façade as well as the construction of new facilities such as restaurants, cafés and recreational areas overlooking the lake.
The second phase will see the addition of six new restaurants and cafés, as well as a special play area for children. New landscapes will also be created by famous designers from around the world.
Shurooq CEO Marwan Jassim Al Sarkal said the completion of the first phase will coincide with the launch of the Sharjah Water Festival, which it is hosting, and the Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship allowing visitors to watch the boat racing directly from the park.
