Nilaa Coral Island Maldives, the first Maldivian property from Italian group Holding Carisma, will open on November 1 on Kodegalaa Island in the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, introducing an intimate approach to private island hospitality.
The resort features just seven villas, designed as
individual residences rather than conventional hotel accommodation, with space
for approximately 40 guests.
The collection includes two- and three-bedroom villas and a
five-bedroom residence, each offering generous living areas, kitchens, high
ceilings and private outdoor spaces.
"With Nilaa, we wanted to build something that felt
like a home, not a hotel," says Mila Zegna Cagnoli, a member of the owning
family. "We wanted every villa to have the warmth and individuality of a
home. That is what matters most to us."
Located near the Equator, Nilaa places nature and its
surrounding reef at the centre of the guest experience. Unlike traditional
Maldivian resorts, all structures are located on the island, helping preserve
the relationship between the beach, vegetation and marine environment.
Guests can access the house reef directly from shore, while
the marine centre offers diving, kite surfing, wing foiling, e-boarding, water
skiing, wakeboarding and other watersports. Private boat excursions, fishing
and wider atoll exploration are also available.
Italian design influences the property, created by Milan-
and Como-based architecture studio Hus, with travertine, coloured marble and
natural materials reflecting both Italian craftsmanship and the Maldivian
landscape.
Dining includes Italian-Asian cuisine incorporating local
ingredients, with options ranging from restaurants and chef’s tables to rooftop
aperitivo and private villa dining. Wellness facilities include a boutique spa
offering traditional and Ayurvedic treatments.
The entire island can also be privately booked, positioning
Nilaa for families, celebrations, weddings and multi-generational stays seeking
an exclusive Maldivian retreat. -TTN
