Pascal Fitoussi, regional director of sales and marketing Africa for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, will be at ATM to promote the existing properties as well as launching three new ones. He told TTN what’s happening in his region.
How many Hotels are now covered in the Africa Region?
In Egypt we have seven properties as well as four Nile cruisers between Luxor and Aswan and another on Lake Nasser.
We also cover Mövenpick Resort & Spa Mauritius, Mövenpick Royal Palm Hotel Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Malabata Tanger, Morocco, and Mövenpick Resort & Marine Spa Sousse, Tunisia.
How was 2009 in the region and how is 2010 looking so far?
In 2009 we had a slight drop compared to 2008, which was very profitable and an amazing year for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Africa and in 2010 we are expecting an increase of 20-25 per cent compared to 2009 as we are looking to penetrate new markets.
Do you have any new properties scheduled to open?
We have just had the soft opening of our latest property at Sousse (pictured) and also during 2010 we are planning to open a second property in Gammarth, Tunisia, The Mövenpick Hotel Gammarth.
The hotel features 117 rooms and suites. Most of the rooms enjoy a sea view and all are fully equipped with high-speed internet access, air-conditioning/heating, TV with satellite channels, a mini-bar and safe deposit box.

There is an all-day dinning restaurant, offering international cuisine, Alsafsaf, Mediterranean restaurant and an Oriental restaurant.
The hotel has a 300-m golden sandy beach, an outdoor swimming pool, a children’s pool, two tennis courts, a spa with an indoor swimming pool, a modern health and fitness club and a wide selection of treatments with an authentic hammam and a beauty salon.
A multipurpose ballroom is available which accommodates up to 250 guests as well as meeting rooms with state-of-the-art equipment.
Another addition will be the 172-room Mövenpick Hotel Ramallah in Palestine.
Where do the majority of your guests come from?
In Egypt our top markets are Germany, the UK, Benelux, France and Switzerland.
Do you have many visitors coming from the Middle East?
Yes we have guests coming from the Middle East region such as Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar.
What are the locations most popular with ME visitors?
El Gouna, the Nile cruisers and our two properties in Cairo.
Are there any special promotions planned for 2010 and anything targeted specifically at the Middle East market?
During the summer we will have special promotions and packages covering this market, which will be supported by sales calls and a road show.
