CapeTown Routes Unlimited (CTRU), the Western Cape’s tourism marketing organisation, promoter of Cape Town and the Western Cape, has appointed Dubai, UAE-based African Odyssey as its marketing  representative in the Middle-East region.

Itumeleng Pooe, executive manager – destination marketing Africa, Asia, Middle East, said: ‘We are delighted to have appointed a representative in the region. We have long identified the Middle East as an emerging market and this agreement will provide a new and valuable window to increase awareness and promote Cape Town and the Western Cape as a premier leisure, events and business tourism destination. The recent strengething of air connectivity between the two regions ahead of FIFA 2010 was another significant step in that direction.’’

She added, the company will be looking at its 2010 focused marketing campaign, ‘beyond the 90 minutes’ to encourage 2010 visitors to see, hear, feel, smell and taste as much of the destination as possible before and after football matches. “In other words we want them to literally go beyond the 90 minutes of the game,’’ said Pooe.

African Odyssey founder and chief executive Mary Paul said: “Being a platform exclusively dedicated to the African continent for marketing and representation in the Middle East, we feel honored and greatly privileged to represent one the most beautiful and iconic destinations in the world. Cape Town and the Western Cape is renowned for its unforgettable natural beauty, has a wonderful climate, great infrastructure, fantastic Mice venues and facilities and is considered one of the best year-round value-for-money holiday destinations.”
