Mexico City to host major travel fair

Mexico City’s government hopes to attract exhibitors from around the globe after announcing it will host the first International Tourism Fair of the Americas (FITA) next September.

More than 70 countries are expected to be represented at FITA 2010 which is set to attract upwards of 200 exhibitors including Mice representatives, tour operators, hotel groups and national tourism organisations.

Mayor of Mexico City Marcelo Ebrard said: “Mexico City is the ideal location to host the International Tourism Fair of the Americas, which is well positioned to become one of the world’s most important tourism events.”

“FITA 2010 will showcase the amazing destinations of the world in a cosmopolitan and culturally-rich setting,” said Alejandro Rojas, Tourism Secretary of Mexico City. “There is no better place to host a tourism event than Mexico City, with its extraordinary mosaic of lights, colours, tastes, smells, sensations, and emotions.”

And Mayor Ebrard added that with the launch of FITA 2010, Mexico City is renewing its commitment to the tourism sector, which is critical to the city and the country’s prosperity.

FITA 2010, which runs from September 23- 26, will coincide with the bicentennial celebration of Mexico’s Independence and the centennial celebration of the Mexican Revolution.
