New CEO at Gulf Air
Gulf Air has appointed Samer Majali as the airline’s new chief executive officer. Majali was previously CEO of Royal Jordanian, where he transformed the airline into a highly successful business. Majali has also served as president of the Arab Air Carriers Organisation and chairman of IATA board of governors.

Bitter moves to Air Arabia Maroc
The Air Arabia Group announced the appointment of Jason Bitter as CEO of Air Arabia (Maroc), which launched operations from its hub in Casablanca in May. Bitter was most recently CEO of Central Europe’s first LCC, SkyEurope Airlines, based in Slovakia. He has also served as COO of India’s low-cost carrier, SpiceJet Limited.

New senior VP at Etihad
Etihad Airways has appointed Belinda de Rome as its new senior vice president to lead its corporate communications team. Ms de Rome previously held the position of head of corporate communications at Qantas Airways in Australia. Prior to Qantas, she worked at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

Meckelburg joins Safir Hotels
Safir Hotels International appointed Helmut Meckelburg as chief operating officer. Meckelberg was formerly with the Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces in India and in Dubai since 2000. He also spent eight years with Hilton Hotels Corporation, USA, where he worked at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York and Los Angeles Hilton.

Six Senses appoints new GM
Marteyne van Well has been promoted to general manager of the Soneva Gili by Six Senses. She was previously spa director at Six Senses Spa, Sharq Village & Spa in Qatar. She brings with her over two decades of experience in luxury hotels and across locations including the French Alps, Marrakech, New York, Washington DC and London.

New faces at Makkah Royal Tower
Makkah Clock Royal Tower in Saudi Arabia, a Fairmont property, has new team members. Mohammed Arkobi (right) has been appointed as vice president and general manager of the property as well as Emaar Residences at Fairmont Makkah and Raffles Makkah Palace. The hotel also appointed Nasir Saudi as hotel manager.

Jumeirah Group has four new general managers. The Mina A’ Salam welcomed Mahmoud Sakr (right) as GM, Dagmar Woodward will lead the pre-opening team of Jumeirah Frankfurt, Khaled Helmy is GM for Jumeirah Messilah Beach in Kuwait and in New York, Gary Schweikert is the GM of Jumeirah Essex House.

Redwan, originally from Syria, has worked for five-star properties in Greece, Switzerland and in the UAE, his career in the hospitality industry starting in 2003. The Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi has appointed Ahmet Ender (right) as executive assistant manager in charge of Beach Rotana Suites. Ender brings with him 37 years of hotel experience in Turkey, the UK, Germany, Africa, Canada and the Middle East. The hotel has also appointed Dirk Bansemer as food and beverage director.

Four Seasons Hotel Amman has announced Mohamed Karara as the new director of sales and marketing. Karara joined the Four Seasons in 2003 as sales manager at their Sharm El Sheikh property prior to joining the Amman hotel as the director of sales, before taking over his new role.

Hilton Hotels Corporation has promoted Andrew Flack to vice president of global brand marketing for the Hilton brand. In this newly created position, he will oversee Hilton brand marketing strategies and functions worldwide. Previously he was vice president sales and marketing – Hilton Asia Pacific.

Arabian Adventures has appointed a new business development manager – Denise Heckscher, who brings with her over 15 years of experience. She was previously sales manager for the Globus Family of Brands for the Australian States of Victoria and Tasmania, and the hospitality events manager for Australia and New Zealand for IMG.
