The Medienhafen, “media harbour” in Düsseldorf, Germany

DÜSSELDORF kicked off its tourism programme last month with the world’s biggest water sports show. Events to follow this month include watching Jogi Löw and his boys play Norway at the LTU arena on February 11, and from February 19 to 25, carnival revellers will takeover the state capital.
Düsseldorf’s popular street carnival starts with ‘Weiberfastnacht’ women’s carnival. February 22 sees a day of parades with about 70 floats, 40 marching bands and 80 costumed dancing groups appearing in the different districts of town. About a million spectators line the streets every year along the parade’s course which leads through the Old Town, past the historic town hall, along Königsallee and into Friedrichstraße.
Since 2004, Düsseldorf Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (DMT) have been participating in the Rosenmontag parade with a float, in cooperation with the Comitee Düsseldorfer Carneval. This year’s motto will be the town twinning agreement between Düsseldorf and the Chinese city of Chongqing, concluded five years ago.
In May, Düsseldorf Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (DMT) has some short city breaks for long distance runners. During the Metro Group Marathon weekend of May 1 to 3 several travel and hotel packages are available in Düsseldorf.
