Farid takes charge at Layia
Layia Hospitality has appointed Freddy Farid as area vice president. In his new role, Farid will be responsible for the operation of all Layia Hospitality properties in the northern part of Dubai & Sharjah. Prior to joining Layia, Farid was area vice president Abu Dhabi & Al Ain for Rotana Hotels.
Rhomberg appointed as GM
Four Seasons Hotel Damascus welcomes Martin Rhomberg as its general manager. Rhomberg started with Four Seasons in 2000, when he was director of F&B at the Four Seasons Hotel Caracas. He became the resort manager of two Four Seasons Resorts: Punta Mita, Mexico and Resort Costa Rica.
Promotion for Abu Dahab
Kempinski Hotels announced the promotion of Haytham Abu Dahab as area director of sales and marketing. Abu Dahab will be responsible for managing the sales and marketing efforts of Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea and Kempinski Hotel Aqaba. Prior to his new role, he was DOSM at the Kempinski Ishtar.
New faces at Sharq Village & Spa
Sherif Sabry (left) has been appointed director of sales and marketing for Sharq Village and Spa. Sabry was previously at the Sheraton Doha Resort and Convention Hotel in Doha. Evelyn Yo has been named director of public relations for the property. Yo arrives in Doha from Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore.
Rosewood appoints Chef Toshiya
Toshiya Honda, renowned Japanese chef, has been appointed to lead the new Ginza I Chome Japanese restaurant at Rosewood Corniche in Jeddah. Chef Toshiya has worked in many hotels and restaurants throughout Asia, Europe and America for the last 25 years. He was executive chef for The Renaissance Hotel KL.
Jumeirah announces promotions
Jumeirah has appointed Frank van der Post (left) to COO of the group, and Marco Nijhof as senior vice president, Middle East, Africa, India, Seychelles and the Maldives. Van der Post joined the Jumeirah Group in 2005 as senior vice president, Americas, and Nijhof joined in 2006 as senior vice president, Gulf.
New GM at Al Bustan Rotana
Rotana Hotels recently announced the appointment of Detlef Winter as general manager of the Al Bustan Rotana Dubai. Detlef is from Germany and has been in the hospitality industry for 28 years. He has previously worked in Dubai for two years in 1995 and is very excited to be back.
New appointments at the InterCon Regency
The InterContinental Regency Bahrain has appointed Krikor Kukeyan as executive assistant manager. He was until recently executive assistant manager at the InterContinental Libreville in Gabon Africa. K.P Shajeeb has been appointed as sales manager at hotel. Shajeeb started his career in Accor GSO in India.
Sheraton Bahrain welcomes Shetty
Sheraton Bahrain Hotel announced the appointment of Rama Shetty as the F&B director for the property. With 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Shetty has a proven track record of improving standards, good leadership qualities and excellent customer relations.
Mills appointed at HKTB
The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has appointed Simon Mills as its new director, Northern Europe. Mills joins from VisitBritain and has held senior positions in several major worldwide markets. Most recently he was VisitBritain’s regional marketing manager for Europe.
Safir welcomes El Khazen
Safir Bhamdoun Hotel recently appointed Zaman El Khazen as general manager. El Khazen’s experience in the hospitality industry includes working in several hotels in Beirut such as Le Méridien Commodore, Holiday-Inn Dunes, Holiday-Inn Martinez and Metropolitan Palace Hotel.
Desmonts takes charge
Avari Hotels International recently appointed Daniel Desmonts as general manager of the Avari Hotel & Suites, Dubai. Desmonts originates from Normandy, France, where he was overlooked the operations of his own provincial hotels group. He has also worked with the Mandarin Group based in Hong Kong.
New appointments at Raffles Dubai
Simon Spiller (left) and Khaldoun Shindi have been appointed assistant directors of F&B for Raffles Dubai. Spiller was previously restaurant operations manager. Shindi joined the team in Dubai in October 2007. He has also worked at Shangri-La Hotel Dubai and the Marriott International in Amman.
New appointments at Metropolitan Dubai
Jatin Chopra (left) has rejoined the Metropolitan Hotel Dubai as senior sales manager, Corporate. Prior to this Jatin was working at Crowne Plaza Resort Salalah, Oman as sales manager. Murugesh Sambasadhasivam has been appointed as human resources manager with the hotel.
Lufthansa promotion
Randa El Massry has been appointed as manager passenger sales Qatar. El Massry joined Lufthansa German Airlines as an assistant to the marketing manager in 1989. When Lufthansa commenced operations to Qatar in 2006, El Massry was appointed as manager direct sales, marketing and administration.
Homenidis moves to Jumeira Rotana
Rotana Hotels, Suites and Resorts has appointed Yannis Homenidis as general manager of Jumeira Rotana Dubai. Homenidis has worked with several hotel chains in Athens, Greece including Hilton and Intercontinental Group and has a strong background in F&B with Rotana Hotels.
New DOSM at Angsana Hotel, Dubai
Angsana Hotel & Suites Dubai has appointed Stefan van der Kruyf as director of sales and marketing. Van der Kruyf has held roles at numerous properties including Hyatt Regency Dubai and Galleria, Intercontinental Frankfurt, Hilton Hotels Munich, Heidelberg Marriott Hotel, as well as with the Meridian Group.
New promotions at Millennium
Srijai Menon (left) has been promoted to sales account executive for the corporate market at the Grand Millennium Dubai. Menon has previously worked for Trident Hilton Chennai in India and Four Points by Sheraton in Dubai. Samia Kerrouche has been appointed as PR coordinator for the hotel.
New team at the Sheraton Dubai Creek
Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers recently announced the appoint-ments of Jay Ko (left), Anais Gruninger and Ulrike Schwirz as the new sales account manager and sales executives, respectively. Ko moves from a well known five star hotel in Shenyang, China.
Etihad appoints Dalziel
Etihad Airways has appointed Lorna Dalziel as the airline’s new regional manager airport operations for Europe and Americas. Dalziel moves from her current position as Etihad’s airport manager in Milan, Italy, to take up the new role in Abu Dhabi. Dalziel joined the airline as airport manager for Milan.
