Bahrain Hotels promotes Jones
The Bahrain Hotels Company promoted Garfield Jones to deputy chief executive officer. He joined BHC in 1995 as F&B man-ager at the Gulf Hotel and held the positions of director of F&B and executive assistant manager at the hotel, before transferring to BHC as director of operations when the company restructured in 2002.
Ayari for Banyan Tree Bahrain
Sami Ayari has been named the new general manager at Banyan Tree Desert Spa and Resort, Al Areen. Ayari joined the chain in 2005 as the hotel manager of Banyan Tree Bangkok. Shortly after, he was appointed group manager of the Rooms Division, followed by group director of business development for the African Continent and Europe.
Storey goes to Jordan Valley Marriott
The Jordan Valley Marriott Resort & Spa has announced the appointment of Russel Storey as director of operations at the resort. Storey will be in charge of Food & Beverage as well as Rooms and Related Operations.
Storey has been the director of food and beverage at the Jordan Valley Resort & Spa since August 2005.
Frauenstein for Al Bustan Rotana
The Al Bustan Rotana Hotel has announced the appointment of Craig N Frauenstein as area director of human resources for all the Rotana Hotels in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
Frauenstein brings with him more than 13 years of experience in the field of human resources and at five-star properties.
New chefs at Four Seasons Sharm
The Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh has appointed two new chefs: Attapol Thangthong (left) is Thai Chef at the resort, Christian Maurizzi is the new Italian Chef. Chef Attapol was formally executive sous chef with the Dusit Group’s D2Hotel in Thailand, while Chef Maurizzi was the executive chef at the Grand Hotel Fasano in Italy.
New GM at Mövenpick Hotel, Kuwait
Heinz Krähenbühl has joined the Mövenpick Hotel and Convention Centre Kuwait as general manager. He takes charges from the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Dead Sea, Jordan where he was resident manager. He has also worked with the Hilton in Switzerland and Singapore and with the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai.
Macke for Kempinski Dead Sea
The Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea has appointed Silke Macke as executive assistant manager. She was previously regional VP, sales and marketing, Middle East and Africa for the group, which she joined in 2003 as director of sales and marketing, Kempinski Hotel Bristol Berlin, before a promotion to the group’s corporate office in Geneva.
Romano moves up at Novotel Bahrain
The Novotel Al Dana Resort has promoted Salvatore Romano to director of operations, assisting the general manager in the management of the resort. He has been director of F&B at the hotel, as well as holding senior positions in food and beverage at the Gulf Hotel, Habtoor Hospitality and the Mövenpick groups.
New executive chef for Sheraton Deira
Robin Gomes joins the Sheraton Deira Hotel as its new executive chef. Chef Robin brings with him experience at various Sheraton group hotels, including the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel, Sheraton Sana’a Hotel, Sheraton Basra, Iraq and Sheraton Bahrain Hotel. He is also a member of the Emirates Culinary Guild.
Rezidor strengthens ME team
The Rezidor Hotel Group has appointed Nisrine Karazi its assistant business development and technical services, and Arnold Rouverand (above) as regional project manager based in Dubai. Karazi joins Rezidor from HSBC Bank Middle East, while Rouverand has spent over four years with the Hyatt Group.
Radisson Taba appoints Schiess
Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts has appointed Peter Schiess as general manager of the resort property. He began his career in F&B. He took charge as GM of the Ghazala Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh and handled four properties as MD of South Sinai Hotels before moving to Finland as owner and manager of the Hotel & Restaurant Paljakka.
New EAM at Al Murooj Rotana
The Al Murooj Rotana Hotel and Suites in Dubai has announced the appointment of Anke Glaessing as its new executive assist-ant manager.
Glaessing started her career with Le Meridien Abu Dhabi. Prior to her new position at the Al Murooj Rotana, she was director of rooms at Le Meridien Jakarta.
F&B news at Mövenpick Bur Dubai
Hakim Karoui, who previously held the position of assistant F&B manager at the property, is now in charge of the department in his role of F&B manager. He has been with the Mövenpick Ulysse Palace and Thalasso in Djerba, and the the Ritz Carlton in Doha for his first move to the Middle East.
New Chef at Le Meridien Abu Dhabi
Dominique Morin has been appointed as executive chef at the Le Méridien Abu Dhabi. He started his career in the kitchen at the age of 14. In the last 11 years, he has worked as executive chef with various Sheraton Hotels in Benin, Morocco, Turkey, Nigeria and Tunisia handling a kitchen brigade from 40 up to 110 chefs.
Qatar Airways expands it’s sales team
Qatar Airways UK has appointed Caroline Stanley and Nick Corney account managers for the leisure market in its southern sales team, whilst Garth Rozario joins as corporate account manager. Caroline has been with Laker Airways and Air Canada, and Nick was earlier with Malaysia Airlines. Garth joins from ANA.
