Between December 6-12, Qatar will be the first country in the Gulf region to host and enjoy the spectacular show, Cats. Arguably the most well-known of all of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musicals, Cats played in London’s West End for 21 years and on Broadway for 18 years. Cats, based on T S Elliot’s, Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, first exploded onto the West End stage in 1981 has been delighting audiences ever since. Memory, the shows best-known song has been recorded by hundreds of artistes and has been a hit worldwide. Cats has won two Laurence Olivier Awards in the West End and seven Tony Awards on Broadway. When The International Touring Production of Cats arrives in Doha, they bring with them 40 tonnes of equipment, a custom crew of 80 including technical experts, and a cast of 34. To date they have visited such diverse counties as Lebanon, Malaysia, Korea, China, Taiwan, Sweden, Norway and Finland.Qatar Foundation, in collaboration with Qatar Tourism Authority, Qatar Airways and The Ritz-Carlton, Doha will present Cats in Doha as the exclusive Gulf venue in association with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group. The production will take place at The Ritz-Court Theatre, situated within The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Doha for a strictly limited season of eight performances.Cats will be a unique event for Qatar, and indeed the Gulf region: one which it is hoped will attract considerable interest and attention from people of all ages and nationalities, from the entire region.
