Ensuring the long-term sustainable growth of the travel and tourism industry is one of the biggest challenges facing the sector.
WTTC, as part of its commitment to promoting sustainability in the industry, has instituted the WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Awards. The awards are aimed at recognising best practice in sustainable tourism within the industry globally, based upon the principles of environmentally friendly operations; support for the protection of cultural and natural heritage; and direct benefits to the social and economic well-being of local people in travel destinations around the world. The finalists for the 2016 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards have been carefully selected by the Tourism for Tomorrow judges. Winners will be officially announced during the awards ceremony taking place in Dallas, US, on April 7 during the WTTC Global Summit.The finalists are:Community Award: Expediciones Sierra Norte, Pueblos Mancomunados, Mexico; Sapa O’Chau, Vietnam; and Yayasan Ekowisata Indonesia, Indonesia.Destination Award: Parkstad Limburg, Netherlands; Swiss Parks Network, Switzerland; and V&A Waterfront, South Africa.Environment Award: Alcatraz Cruises, USA; Lindblad Expeditions, US; and Wilderness Safaris, South Africa / Botswana. Innovation Award: ‘Carmacal’ B2B carbon calculator by ANVR the Netherlands Travel Trade Association, Netherlands; ‘Measuring Tourism’s Impact’ by PWC, Travel Foundation & TUI Group, UK; and Regenerative Plug-In Hybrid Propulsion System, Northsailing, Iceland .People Award: Jus’ Sail, Saint Lucia; Kinyei International, Cambodia; and Youth Career Initiative (YCI), UK.
