Hakuna Matata with Kenya

IN many ways Kenya is the ultimate African destination, and luxury travel in Kenya provides travellers an intimate window into the heart of Africa. Whether you would like a front-row seat for the greatest show on earth – the great migration or are seeking an authentic connection to local culture, Kenya is an extraordinary place.

In July and August, the Great Migration floods the region: zebra and wildebeests, as well as the larger predators these animals attract. In the north, more game opportunities abound as permanent waters lure a plentiful array of wildlife and Lake Nakuru becomes the backdrop for one of the finest bird sanctuaries in the world.

Private luxury travel to Kenya offers more than superior safaris, however; on the coast, Lamu Island combines white sand beaches and archaeological sites that examine pre-colonial African history. The cultural background of Kenya is intriguing and the country offers an array of traditional art, dance, and music. Hand-woven baskets, beaded jewellery and carved wooden sculptures are commonly found artefacts and Kenya’s gastronomic options are influenced by a breadth of cultures.

HELICOPTER SAFARI

A helicopter is a perfect way to access remote areas quickly and easily, without need for landing strips or clearances. Some of the ranches in Laikipia can arrange ‘heli-camping’ in which a helicopter is used to transport guests to remote destinations where a luxury camp awaits. This is also an out of this world way to see the local landscapes and wildlife.

BALLOON SAFARI

For a truly unique perspective on this spectacular wilderness, dawn balloon safaris, carried out daily from several lodges, can be booked through most Safari companies. This incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience offers the visitor a fantastic view of the great plains of the Mara and the chance to drift unobtrusively over the great herds below.

BIG-GAME FISHING

The waters of the Indian Ocean are an adventurer’s playground. The coast of Kenya has a well-deserved reputation for big-game fishing and has attracted fishing devotees such as Ernest Hemingway, drawn by the promise of world-class fishing. The main game fish include Sailfish and Marlin, Kingfish, Wahoo, Horse Mackerel and others. A tag and release program ensures eco-friendly fishing. Big game fishing can be arranged from December to March.

DIVING

Kenya is becoming increasingly popular as a dive destination. Kenya has another great wilderness area hid beneath the surface of the Indian Ocean, a wilderness just as rich, diverse and ripe for exploration as any of our game parks.
