Lufthansa focuses on families

LUFTHANSA’S ‘Red Cap’ Service team gets into top gear this summer to provide an enhanced journey experience to young travellers with its new “Family Check-in Areas” at Frankfurt and Munich Airports.

Carsten Schaeffer, vice president Sales & Services Southeast Europe, Middle East and Africa said: “As Europe’s family airline, Lufthansa is making sure travelling with small children is stress-free this summer, providing exclusive family-friendly check-in counters in our main hubs. The real fun begins onboard with new games, meals and activities which will make even the longest journey a memorable experience.”

The new “Family Check-in Areas” are for families travelling with children up to 12 years old and conveniently-located at both the Airports. Under the motto “Your youngsters are the greatest“, the special counters, where boarding passes and luggage can be dropped off. The young travellers are welcomed at the counters by Lufthansa mascots, Lu and Cosmo.

Lufthansa check-in staff at the dedicated family counters issue boarding passes, note seat reservations and even provide children a boarding pass for their cuddly soft toy or teddy bear. Family guides are also available to assist in locating children’s play areas, baby changing facilities, child-friendly restaurants, pharmacies, supermarkets, observation decks and discount vouchers for airport shopping.

Children will also be handed a log book to enter their flight details and after the 12th departure will be presented with the Junior Pilot certificate, signed by the captain.

Other enhanced features include new healthy meals onboard, range of entertainment activities including colouring books and puzzles as well as the new Disney 3D animation film “Planes will be available on Lufthansa’s Media World – Long Haul in-flight entertainment system from October 1, 2013.

Children aged two to 17 also get the opportunity to become JetFriends club members, a special frequent flyer programme.

Lufthansa’s Red Cap Service was introduced in 1968 to provide special services to families with small children, customers with limited mobility and passengers requiring extra care.

Lufthansa has also added a new feather to its cap when its First Class lounges were ranked as the best in the world by 18 million passengers from over 100 countries who participated in the Skytrax aviation passenger survey.

The airline has also been voted Best Western European Airline and Best Transatlantic Airline. The Lufthansa First Class Terminal at Frankfurt Airport received top marks in the Survey while the First Class Lounges at Frankfurt and Munich were highly-ranked by customers.
